Jackie O' Kennedy was our family dog before the official founding of GGS, and now has a greater purpose of ensuring the safety of our land perimeter and all residents. She always has a smile on & will never pass up a head pat!
Louie was adopted by us around 7-8 months from a foster home a few counties over. He has now become our loyal guardian dog who assists his older sister in ensuring the safety of our residents. He loves to play fetch with our volunteers!
Kali was abandoned by her mother as a young adult and was found in our shed attic, nestled within the insulation. She is now the princess of the cat castle, and joyously welcomes all newcomers into our sanctuary!
Banjo was found in a local grocery store parking lot a few blocks away from our sanctuary land looking for food near the dumpsters. After 8 months of socialization, Banjo now loves pets of all kinds & twirls around with excitement for mealtimes!
Martha showed up one day with a smaller orange cat we believe is her son (Chester). It took 6 months of socialization, but we finally earned her trust. She now loves tagging along for daily morning chores & napping with fellow residents!
Chester was an original resident found as a feral young adult with his mother (Martha) who slowly became accustomed to affection, and now loves to lick his friends and take long, cozy naps in the leaf piles.
Itachi was one of six kittens found in a garage attic a few houses down. Luckily, we were able to find forever homes for 5/6. Itachi is now a permanent resident here at GGS & truly believes she is a black panther!
Butters lives in a specialty catio enclosure due to his FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) and his feline leukemia. He gets daily wet food and lots of cuddles from our staff & volunteers!
Momo is one of our founder's cat since college. She was adopted from a shelter near Bloomington, IN. She is currently a specialty resident because of her anxiety, but she is slowly learning how to socialize & play with other residents. She will never pass up a box to sit in!
Melodious has a great temperament for a rooster, as he is very calm and courteous. He actively manages our chicken flock, as well as protects the large chicken coop enclosure and pasture area. He has accepted chickens of all kinds into his flock no matter their past or color.
The remaining 16 chickens of our flock who do not have as distinguished personalities as the previous, or may just be more reserved. We give them opportunities to engage with us and other residents, as well as add daily enrichment.
To hold space for our fellow local animal populations; such as deer, racoons, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, foxes, bats, shrews, weasels, badgers, voles, beavers, muskrats, minks, opossums, gophers, skunks, woodchucks, as well as all the reptiles, amphibians, bird species & so many more!
Nature was rescued by a kind soul a few towns away who quickly contacted us to help. Despite her cat allergies, she ensured Nature was safe and cared for, as she was abandoned near a busy highway. We normally don't take strays in, but she didn't have a place to return to and we quickly fell in love with her tranquility.
Veronica found her way to the sanctuary naturally and kept popping up in our cat castle. We eventually caught her after months of earning her trust! Now she hangs around majority of the day and loves enjoying yummy treats at mealtimes!

Together on their homestead, they founded Golden Garden's Sanctuary to assist with local animal and forest management. Both have a deep passion for sustainability and living in harmony with nature & animals. Andre is our Executive Director and Sienna is our Director of Operations.
Truman was brought to us by a neighbor who has a feral cat colony of +15 cats. She was concerend about his ear and that he may be a stray, because he is SUPER friendly with all humans. We helped him get the needed care for his aural hematoma (ear) but couldn't locate a microchip or owner. Truman will be ready for adoption July 2024.
Many kittens available for adoption and currently being socialized with people, dogs, and other cats daily. Looking for their forever homes! Check out our adoptions tab or adopt-a-pet.com for more information on each of the current kittens available and the adoption process!
Topaz gets an honorable mention here as a distinguished chicken resident because she finds a way to escape the enclosure everyday. She then proceeds to hang around her cat friends near the cat castle all day. Her and Melodious the rooster are brother & sister!
Cotton Ball was found in the middle of our road a few blocks down with one eye crusted shut and a respiratory infection. She was so underweight you could see her bones. Now, CB enjoys daily nutritional wet food and lots of cuddles from our staff and volunteers!
Ruby is a purebred English Settler who was found abandoned in the kennels acquired through our expansion project. She was found without food or water nor had a clean place to be. We are now actively nourishing Ruby with nutrition & love until we can find the right forever home for this sweet girl.
Jezzabelle was found a few blocks away in a house where her owners had moved out and unfortunately, left her behind inside. She is a specialty cat resident since she has only ever lived inside, and is very shy towards animals and people. She took a liking to one of our consistent volunteers, and they officially adopted her!
Jefferson was rescued from a terrible breeding situation where him and his siblings were found in disgusting conditions. All of the bulldogs developed a fear of men, and will act in aggression only towards men. Luckily for Jefferson, one of our volunteers (and neighbor) fell in love with him and welcomed him into their family.
Cali was another puppy rescued from a breeding mill a few towns over, she was found with dozens of other siblings. Thankfully, all pups found were rehomed, but Cali has found a special place in the heart of one of our board member's fathers. He adopted her and now loves to take her camping, hiking, and on canoe trips! She frequently visits her cousins at Golden Gardens every few months.
